Heinrich Wendel and the Cave Art

Heinrich Wendel started following the tracks of Ice Age artists deep in the caves of France and Spain with his camera between 1964 and 1977. The german rock-art researcher Herbert Kühn helped him to gain access to the caves. Wendel's enthusiasm and professionalism proved the seriousness and his concern and so he managed to advance into the deepest galleries. He was fascinated by the mystical beginnings of human history and hoped to discover the secrets of the cave artists with the help of photography, and by way of the experience of the subterranean rooms. To himself the caves were magical places, which made it possible to relive the beginnings of human kind.
Back to The Wendel Collection
